Teacher Education
The SAERA Special Interest Group in Teacher Education provides a research-based network for teacher educators and scholars interested in research about the provision, quality and effectiveness of teacher education within the South African context. The SIG in TE aims to facilitate the formulation and execution of collaborative research projects. Of particular interest to the SIG is research around the conceptualisation, teaching and evaluation of different components of initial teacher education programmes and the inter-relationships that exist between them. This includes (but is not limited to) university-based coursework; work-integrated learning and the building of research-informed partnerships between Higher Education Institutions and schools; and preparing students to teach within diverse South African contexts.
The SIG in Teacher Education provides a platform for the dissemination of research findings amongst its members and ultimately hopes to support to members as they contribute to the scholarship of teacher education. This SIG is well positioned to make recommendations to policy makers on issues relating to the provision of ITE in South Africa.
